Development Program
Grades 1 - 3
Program Overview
The Development Program is designed to introduce young athletes to the game of basketball in a fun, positive, and encouraging environment. Through professional instruction, skill development, and age-appropriate gameplay, players build confidence, learn the fundamentals, and develop a love for the game.
Our goal is to provide every player with a positive first basketball experience while creating a strong foundation of skills, teamwork, sportsmanship, and confidence that will support their continued growth.
1st & 2nd Grade Development Program
The 1st & 2nd Grade Development Program combines four (4) instructor-led skills clinics with a minimum of eight developmental scrimmage games.
- Games are played in a 3v3 half-court format to start, then progress to full-court 5v5
- Designed to provide players with meaningful opportunities to learn, compete, and apply their skills in a fun game environment.
- Scores and standings are not tracked.
- Emphasis on skill development, teamwork, sportsmanship, and helping each player build confidence while learning the fundamentals of basketball.
3rd Grade Development Program
The 3rd Grade Development Program combines instructor-led skills clinics, two developmental scrimmage games, and eight regular-season games.
- Games are played in a 5v5 format.
- Game scores are kept
- However, division standings are not maintained.
- Emphasis remains on player development, teamwork, sportsmanship, and preparing players for future levels of basketball competition.
Player Skills Clinics
- Player skills clinics are led by a professional basketball trainer selected by the league.
- These sessions are designed to provide players with a strong foundation in the fundamentals of basketball.
- Clinics will be held at the beginning of the season.
- Coaches are encouraged to participate and assist trainers during these sessions to reinforce skills throughout the season.
Team Formation & Placement
- There are no preseason evaluations for this program.
- Teams will be formed in October, and families will be notified of coach and team assignments in late October, early November.
- Teams are formed by school, player practice night request (availability), and finally by the coach's practice night availability.
- We do
not take coach or teammate requests.
Season & Schedule
The Development Program season runs from mid-November through the end of February
1st & 2nd Grade Program
- Clinics are held during the first four Saturdays of the season
- Developmental scrimmage games begin in January, 3v3 then 5v5
- Games are scheduled on Saturdays
3rd Grade Program
- Clinics are held during the first two Saturdays of the season
- Developmental scrimmage games are held in December
- Regular season games begin the first Saturday in January and continue through the first weekend in March
Team Practices
- Teams practice one night per week
- Each practice is approximately 60 minutes
- Practice days are determined based on coach availability
- Practice schedules are posted on or about November 1
Game Schedule
- Game schedules are posted on or about November 15
- Occasional weekday games or schedule adjustments may be necessary due to inclement weather
