Loudoun Middle School  League

Grades 6–8

Program Overview

The Loudoun Middle School League, operated by NoVa Youth Hoops in partnership with Loudoun County Parks, Recreation & Community Services (PRCS), provides a competitive basketball experience for players in grades 6–8 who are ready to compete at a higher level.

Our middle school teams proudly represent:

  • J. Michael Lunsford Middle School
  • Gum Spring Middle School
  • Willard Middle School


Eligibility & Tryouts

All players interested in participating on a Middle School team must first register for the NoVa Youth Hoops Recreational (House) League and attend the required player evaluations.


Players who achieve a qualifying evaluation score will be invited to participate in Middle School tryouts. Final team selections are based on player evaluations, tryout performance, and roster needs.


Team Structure

Teams compete against other Loudoun County middle schools in the county-managed league. Each participating middle school may field up to five (5) teams:


Girls

  • Varsity (typically 7th & 8th Grade)
  • Junior Varsity (typically 6th & 7th Grade)

Boys

  • Varsity (typically 8th Grade)
  • Junior Varsity (typically 7th Grade)
  • 6th Grade


Season Format

The Middle School League season includes:

  • Two preseason games (typically the weekend before Thanksgiving)
  • Ten regular-season games
  • Games are generally played on Sundays, with occasional Saturday or weekday games.
  • Six advanced team training sessions focusing on skill development

Note: The official game schedule is created and managed by Loudoun County PRCS.


Residency & School Eligibility

Players must attend the middle school they represent. Teams may not combine players from multiple middle schools.


Exceptions

  • Students attending a private school may participate for the public middle school serving the attendance boundary in which they reside.
  • Fifth-grade students may be eligible to play on a 6th Grade or Junior Varsity team if:
  • They reside within the attendance boundary of the school they represent.
  • Their participation does not replace an eligible 6th-grade player.
  • The team does not exceed the maximum roster size of 12 players.


Participation Restrictions

Players may participate in either the NoVa Youth Hoops House League or the Loudoun Middle School League during the season—they may not participate in both.


Players are also not permitted to compete on both a Middle School team and a High School team during the same season.
