Program Overview
The High School House Program is designed for players in grades 9-12 who do not participate on their high school interscholastic teams but want to continue enjoying the game of basketball in a fun, competitive, and recreational environment.
This weekend-only program provides high school-aged players residing in the Freedom, John Champe, and Lightridge school communities with an opportunity to develop their skills, compete with friends, and enjoy a positive team experience.
Players who participate on a high school Freshman, JV, or Varsity interscholastic basketball team during the same program year are not eligible to participate in the High School House Program.
Evaluations
Evaluations are conducted for all High School House Program divisions to help the league assess player skill levels and create balanced, competitive teams.
Evaluation results, along with player experience and age level, are used to support appropriate team placement and maintain parity throughout the league. All players who register by the deadline are guaranteed placement on a team.
Evaluations are typically scheduled for late November or early December. Players are expected to attend one scheduled evaluation session.
Division Structure & Player Placement
For boys, the High School House Program is typically divided into two divisions:
- JV Division: Grades 9-10
- Varsity Division: Grades 11-12
Division structure is based on enrollment numbers each season. When registration permits, divisions may also be organized geographically to support scheduling convenience and create a better experience for players, coaches, and families.
For girls, players typically participate in a county-wide high school recreational league operated through the Central Loudoun Basketball League (CLBL). Team formation is based solely on current-year enrollment.
Player placement within divisions and teams is determined based on evaluation results, player experience, and overall league balance. Requests for placement in specific divisions, on specific teams, or with specific coaches cannot be accommodated.
In cases of lower enrollment, grade levels or divisions may be combined to ensure a positive and competitive experience for all players.
Season & Schedule
The High School House Program runs from December through the end of February/early March.
Teams are formed in early December and will participate in several practices, along with one pre-season scrimmage before the holiday break.
Regular-season games are played on Saturdays and Sundays following the holiday break and continue through mid-February. Playoffs typically begin in late February and conclude by the first weekend in March.
